Meet the veterinarians

About Dr. Daniela Dorantes

I grew up in a small Southern California desert town called Calexico, which is on the Mexico border. One day, our family dog, Louis, became sick and was diagnosed with parvo by our family veterinarian. Parvo can be prevented by appropriate vaccination; however, my family and I had limited knowledge about pet care at that time. Louis was hospitalized for several days and, to our relief, made a full recovery. I was completely fascinated by the veterinary hospital when I visited Louis. I asked the vet questions and met Louis’s health care team. This experience sparked an interest in veterinary medicine, and I knew in my heart that I would become a veterinarian.

I earned a bachelor’s degree in animal science from California Polytechnic University, Pomona  and then earned my doctorate of veterinary medicine from Western University of Health Sciences in Pomona, California.

Working as a small animal veterinarian in general practice and emergency hospitals taught me the significance of providing pets with dignity and quality of life. Granting our four-legged friends a peaceful goodbye in the comfort of their homes, among familiar smells and their beloved family members, is important to me, and I find peace in being part of each pet’s final journey.

Activities that bring me joy are date nights with my partner, Danny, and enjoying life with our pitbull, Axon, and maltipoo, Vivi. I also love yoga, hiking, visiting beautiful beaches and forests, and spending time with my family in Calexico.
