Meet the veterinarians
About Dr. Katrina Zandberg, ACPEV
I grew up in California’s San Fernando Valley, where I spent a lot of time outdoors riding horses and hiking with my Catahoula-border collie mix, Sprote. My childhood home was a flurry of pets, rehabilitating wildlife, and rescue animals, including Matilda the goose and Tinkerbell the ball python. Like many veterinarians, I pursued a veterinary career because I love all animals, I am passionate about their care, health, and longevity, and I am driven to continue to learn new ways to achieve these goals.
I earned my veterinary degree from the University of Wisconsin-Madison School of Veterinary Medicine in beautiful Madison, Wisconsin. As a veterinarian, I enjoy integrative medicine, and combine nutrition, lifestyle, acupuncture, physical therapy, supplements, and senior pet care with traditional medicine. I am passionate about client care, and I believe those in my care deserve to be treated with the utmost dignity and respect, especially when facing difficult decisions where support and kindness is needed.
While I was in Wisconsin, Sprote died suddenly of cancer, and it was heartbreaking to not be there with him to say goodbye. Years later, my family dogs, Lolly and Dolly, fell ill and passed away at a veterinary hospital. Most recently I helped my mother in-law’s dog, Dickens, pass peacefully at home, surrounded by his family after battling a long illness. Having experienced these different types of losses and seeing the difference a pet’s last days and moments can make, I’m passionate about the importance of in-home euthanasia, where we can prevent the anxiety associated with unfamiliar places, and the focus is truly on the family and their bond.
It has been my honor to work in the veterinary field because it has given me the ability to guide people through one of the most difficult days of their lives. Having experienced in-home euthanasia first hand, I believe Lap of Love allows pets and their families the opportunity to say goodbye to one another in the comfort of their own homes with dignity, love, and peace.
When I am not working, I love spending time anywhere outdoors, including beaches, mountains, and forests. I love swimming in the ocean, snowboarding and hiking.
