Meet the veterinarians

About Dr. Cheryl Garcia

I grew up in beautiful Miami, Florida and developed an interest in medicine from a young age. As a kid I enjoyed researching diseases and how to treat them. I always had pets growing up and soon realized that I could combine my love for animals and medicine, which ultimately led me to pursue a career in veterinary medicine.

I completed my undergraduate studies at Florida International University and received my veterinary degree from Western University of Health Sciences in Southern California. Throughout my college years, I was the primary caretaker for my grandmother who was diagnosed with cancer. Before she passed away, she was in hospice care from the comfort of her home, and I was responsible for much of her care and pain management during this time. While losing my grandmother was one of the most difficult experiences of my life, I gained a new understanding of what end-of-life care should look like— a farewell led with love and dignity.

Before working as a general practice veterinarian, I completed a year-long internship to gain exposure to multiple veterinary specialties, and become a well-rounded veterinarian. I enjoy the beautiful connections I make with my patients and their owners as we work together to provide the best care possible for their pet.

My childhood Chihuahua, Lolita, passed away at 16 years old, and it was my first experience losing a pet in my arms. That experience had a deep impact on me, reinforcing the deep connection of the human-animal bond. In my role at Lap of Love, I hope to honor that bond and bring a feeling of peace and fulfillment to families during a difficult time.

Outside of work, I enjoy spending time with my pets, traveling, dancing, hanging out at the beach, and becoming the best human I can be!
